History

Built on the tireless work of owner Willis A. "Lefty" Foster, Foster Abstract & Title Co., Inc. has been a continuing resource for abstracts and title insurance with a reputation of quality and reliability in Eau Claire County for over 50 years.

Spanning a period of time from 1946 to 1953, Lefty worked for and learned the abstract business from Robert L. Boyd. In 1953, Robert L. Boyd and Willis A. Foster formed a corporation, calling it Boyd & Foster Abstract Company. Following Boyd's death in 1959, Lefty took sole ownership and renamed the company Foster Abstract & Title Co., Inc. in 1963.

Well known throughout the State, Lefty was on numerous committees for the Wisconsin Land Title Association and was a Regional Director before serving as President (1982-1983) . Representing Minnesota Title (nka Old Republic National Title Insurance Company), he was the first title agent to write title insurance in Eau Claire County. Lefty's influence on statewide title practices includes his push to have formal instruction in abstracting for those who wished to become title insurance agents. Only now, many years later, is this actually beginning to happen. The impact Lefty has had on the local title industry is second to none. There are few abstracts around Eau Claire County that have not been signed by \"Willis A. Foster.\" The master abstracts of countless subdivisions in the Eau Claire area, not to mention surrounding rural areas, were built by Foster Abstract & Title Co., Inc.

In 1981 Foster Abstract & Title Co., Inc. began operating in Chippewa County and it was here that the enormous task of building a true, real property based tract index took root. That tract index is now 40 years old and is the second largest index of it's kind for the County of Chippewa.
